Wishing for warmer days . . .

Well, Lynsey's nose is on the mend (you can see a big difference from the first picture I post here and one of the last - it's healed a lot over the last week). It's nice because it's not the first thing you notice when you see her anymore. Hopefully it doesn't leave a scar - the nose is kind of a bad place to have a scar. We have been waiting for warmer weather so our days can have some more variety, but it just keeps getting colder:(. I really need to be able to go outside with her, or my days can seem very long (as they have of late). Oh, well - soon enough.

Her level of imitation is just increasing every day! She wants to do everything we do and I'm amazed at how much she observes. She has started carrying around my old cabbage patch doll more and more, and wants her wrapped up in blankets - I've even seen her try to put a diaper on her, which is quite funny. I thought for a while she was also imitating a baby's cries while she was carrying her, but as it turns out, she was just having some issues and the cries were coming from her and not the baby:(. She is trying to do something with that baby and I just don't know what it is! Anyway, she puts things back where they belong which can also be very interesting - I had a stack of her dirty wash cloths in our room, waiting for laundry day, and one day they showed up in her bathtub. She takes stuff out of my nightstand and days later puts them back where they belong. I opened up her potty today and found a wadded up piece of tissue (as well as a baby chick from her farm - not sure why she thought he belonged in there). She is quite the observant one!

It's so much fun to see what she's learning every day! Talking hasn't really progressed much, although she is saying her first two syllable word now - "okay". Not really in context, but she's clearly heard it often enough that she decided to try saying it. Her hair is a bit unruly these days, but I don't really know what to do with it. I don't want to cut it just yet, but it does hang in her eyes sometimes. I wish she would keep clips in her hair, but that is just not happening yet. I suppose I might have to suck it up and trim her bangs soon - I don't think I'm ready for that step yet!

Family Day in Edmonton

We went up to Edmonton for the long weekend since it had been a while since our last trip. It was a fun weekend, relaxing. Lynsey had a bit of a collision with a headboard, resulting in a bit of a gash on her nose:(. She recovered quickly as usual - if only adults could be as tough as her!

She is starting to point things out in books when we ask her to. Sometimes I think she really must know what a kitty is, and then the next time I ask her she points to the cow so there is still a bit of confusion there. She definitely knows where her ears and toes are at the very least:). I think I heard her singing in her crib today which was really cute! She is also saying "no" with more attitude these days - I think she is trying to assert some independence which is cute right now, but might not be so much if it keeps up and gets more defiant! She imitates us more and more, and is trying to clip her own toenails in one of the pictures below. What a girl!

Growing hair, peeing on the potty . . .

So Lynsey decided on Friday that she would pee on the potty! It was really funny - as you can see from one of the pictures below, I often pee with her in the vicinity and she's starting to pick up on what you have to do when on the pot:). So I thought, why not try to take her diaper off and see what she does. The very first time I ever sat her on the potty, and she peed. It was definitely a total fluke, because she suddenly stood up and turned around to look and see what had just happened! I've tried since and nothing, so I'm fairly certain she's not ready for big girl underwear just yet!

Her hair is growing so much and it's making her look so much older! More like a little girl than a baby! I actually got a clip into it the other day and it stayed in for like 10 minutes! Very cute:). As you can see from some of the pictures, she has some very dry skin around her mouth area which I am trying to combat with some Glaxal Base lotion. She's had it on and off for months now - I'm hoping that it will go away in the summer when the air isn't so dry.

Things have been pretty quiet around here without any big developments. I am enjoying my volleyball and Brian is enjoying his basketball. I started reading the Twilight series last week and am totally addicted - thank goodness Amazon was able to deliver books 2, 3 and 4 in a timely manner! I ordered them on Thursday night and they were in my mailbox Monday afternoon. Impressive! Lynsey is continuing to make us smile by all the crazy things she does. Today in the pool, she was constantly falling face first into the water and loving it! She is NOT her mother's daughter apparently, as I was scared of water my whole life, until Brian so bravely took on teaching me to swim some five years ago. I sat her on the edge of the pool and she laughed at me as splashed me with her feet - it was pretty funny! Some days I think I'm going crazy, but thank goodness for good weather allowing me to once again get Lynsey out in the stroller for walks. I don't know what I would do without that distraction some days.
