4 weeks old

Well, Adam is 4 weeks old today, and so far, still not too fussy! I think if he was going to be really fussy, we would definitely know by now, so I am very thankful he's still pretty good! He has his fussy times (unfortunately they come quite often around 5:30 or 6 am - not our favorite time for this) but it is so manageable. I am enjoying the newborn phase a lot more than I did with Lynsey, since I am able to cuddle him a lot more. Yesterday evening, he was awake and calm for over an hour - so fun! He's such a cutie! He eats every three hours quite consistently during the day, and during the night it's every 3.5 to 4 hours. I will be looking to stretch this out over the next little while, picking him up and holding him, trying to get him back to sleep instead of feeding him as soon as he cries. I know he's still only a month old so I'm not rushing into this, but I really need my sleep and I think he can handle longer stretches at night now without eating.

Lynsey loves her little brother, which is such a blessing:). She is a bit overzealous at times, and can't be trusted alone with him because she is still pretty impulsive, but she really is a well-behaved two year old. I am so thankful for this. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be with a newborn and a misbehaving two year old - I guess God knows what we can handle and knows I wouldn't do so well! We are going to Edmonton this weekend and then on to La Crete, so we'll see how that goes. I am looking forward to seeing everyone, but the traveling, not so much. I'll let you know how it goes!

Adam's Photo Shoot

On Saturday, January 9th, Vicki from Cala Photography came back to our place to do a photo shoot with Adam. He actually did really well (once he was warm and cozy anyway!). We were very happy with the results! Here are some of my favorites:).

Sleep deprived but still going strong!

Adam is two and a half weeks old and things are going pretty well so far! I'm tired all the time, but I know I won't be forever, so that helps (a little). He is still a pretty good baby, mostly only crying when he has a burp that needs to come out, or when he's hungry. Overall, his crying is pretty manageable, which is a huge relief for me. He wakes up twice at night to eat, once between 1 and 2, and once between 4:30 and 5 usually. He sometimes goes right back to sleep, but at other times it takes a bit more time to get him settled. I don't do well when he doesn't settle right away - I'm very thankful that Brian isn't working right now so he can get up at night with him sometimes. I just don't do well with crying at night at all - that was one thing we didn't have much with Lynsey.

We had his two week appointment with the midwives on Friday, and he now weighs 9lb 10oz - that is a gain of 1lb 2oz! All they expect at 2 weeks is that they gain their birth weight back! So, my suspicions about him being potentially on the way to chubbiness have been confirmed:). He smiles in his sleep a lot, but I don't think he's smiled on purpose yet. Today he looked at me and gave me a big open mouthed grin that LOOKED purposeful, but I'm pretty sure it was just gas:). What a cutie!

Lynsey is doing pretty well through this transition. She has been saying that she loves us a lot lately, which is nice to hear! She apparently has cut all her two year molars since the last time I checked her mouth - Brian usually brushes her teeth and he just casually mentioned it the other day. No more teething for her! Well, until the 6 year molars, which I hope she will handle okay:). She is having more and more trouble falling asleep for her nap, which can be frustrating - I am not ready for her to give up her nap yet. We are going to try staying in the room with her for a while so she settles down sooner, so we'll see if that makes a difference.

My friends Sarah and Tanya had a shower for me on Sunday - it was a really good time and I (well, Adam technically) was spoiled rotten:). I think it will be just as much fun dressing a little boy as it was dressing a little girl!

Our new life!

Our little Adam will be 10 days old at 8:25pm, and so far, things have been going pretty well! It's been hard getting up at night again, though - that is one thing that I am having a really hard time adjusting to. He does reasonably well at night, but not as good as I would like, even if my expectations are a bit unrealistic! He cries when we change his diaper, which Lynsey never really did, and he didn't like his first bath, which Lynsey did. He is definitely his own person! Usually when he's crying it's either because he has a burp that he needs to get out or he wants us to hold him. So far, pretty manageable. He is right at the age where Lynsey turned fussy, so I am holding my breath right now. Please be a content baby!

Lynsey is adjusting pretty well. She hasn't really acted out, and she pays some attention to him, but not a whole lot. Her interest comes and goes, which is actually kind of nice. So far her life hasn't changed that much - with Brian at home, she still gets plenty of attention. I am still debating whether or not we should try to potty train her while Brian is at home for the month. I am physically feeling really good, so maybe once I get caught up on some sleep I will be more motivated to rise to the challenge. I start exercising tomorrow, too - I am determined to be active right away and NOT gain EXTRA weight after pregnancy like I did last time. I don't use baby weight as an excuse - the baby is out, my uterus is pretty much contracted back to size, it's time to get in shape. Last time I went public with weight loss attempts I managed to lose almost 15 pounds so I'm hoping for the same results this time! Accountability is good for me:).
