Where did my good sleepers go?

The last few weeks have been busy but good! We are getting into the groove of taking Lynsey to preschool and dance, and still manage to find time to socialize and get out which is good:). We were in Edmonton last weekend, and the weekend before that, we had some company and a shower for Annie, Mike's fiance, AND I had my big 10k race on Sunday morning - 59:45 the official results page said:). I was really happy with that, even though it only put me in the middle of the pack as far as standings go. Oh, well - I'm sure that most of the people that finished ahead of me weren't pregnant so I'll just pretend I could have beat them otherwise haha! Lynsey also ran the kids fun run after and had a lot of fun - it was a nice morning all in all!

Adam has become difficult to put to bed, and Lynsey has been waking up almost every night lately with bad dreams. I don't know what happened to my good sleepers! Adam has started crying when we put him in his crib, throwing out his blankets and generally just freaking out. I was at first picking him up and rocking him to calm him down, thinking this was just a one-off thing so it wouldn't hurt, but he's started doing it every night now, so I can do that anymore. We were trying to just pat his back to calm him down, but that has stopped working as well. So yesterday at nap time, I let him scream himself to sleep. Not pleasant, but I felt like we were back to sleep training! He fell asleep after about 45 minutes and actually last night and this nap time have been much easier - very little crying. Fingers crossed! As for Lynsey, she has done this before for a period of time and then stopped, so I'm hoping it's a brief phase. Fingers crossed there, too!

Adam has really been blabbing up a storm the last little while! Every day he adds words to his repertoire, and his communication in general is accelerating. The other morning, Brian had left for work before the kids got up, and he was standing beside the bed looking over me asking, "where Daddy?". Yesterday he picked up Lynsey's stuffed kitty and started walking around saying, "meow meow" which we haven't really practiced with him. He counts to six (don't even know where that came from, either!) and of course, is singing away every chance he gets:). Such a sweet little guy! He feeds himself at every meal (messy as that is sometimes!) and is becoming more and more of a little toddler all the time. Something interesting that he did the other day was fall asleep while he was eating lunch - never seen him do that before!

Lynsey loves preschool and her dance class - it's great to see her being friendly to the kids in her class and make an effort to get to know their names:). I am pretty curious to see how she's doing in her dance class, but we don't get to watch except for a few specified times a year (and the recital of course!). I might have to ask her teacher one of these times how she's catching on - I really hope rhythm can be learned and is not only inherited! She has been testing us a lot lately, and I'm struggling to keep my patience and composure - how can you get so mad at this little person that you love so much?? It is a mystery to me, but somehow it happens!

Just over a month and we're off to Maui! Can't wait:). My pregnancy has been going great so far, started feeling movement a few weeks ago. My ultrasound is next Thursday, so we'll see how strong my resolve to keep the sex of the baby a surprise is!

Let the busy life begin:)

For the Labour Day weekend, Brian took Lynsey on their annual guys camping trip out in the middle of nowhere. I should add that she made history by being the very first female to ever attend this testosterone-dominated trip. I was very worried about how she would do for so long out there, but Brian reports that she did fantastic! She had a lot of fun with the other kids that were there, and went for lots of rides on this buggy thing with her Grandpa:). I was happy to hear that she enjoyed it, and was glad that Brian was also able to enjoy the trip instead of dealing with a high-maintenance girl:). Adam and I had a great weekend! We did some shopping, spent some time at the park, took it easy. I've said it once, I'll say it again - I had my kids in the wrong order!:)

We (well, mostly Brian) have been working hard on the landscaping! Brian took a day off work and got the backyard tilled up and started on a box beside our patio (hard to explain, will have to post pictures when it's done). We got a big load of dirt delivered and Brian has started wheeling it down to the backyard. It's looking promising that we'll be able to have the majority of the landscaping done by the end of the month. Fingers crossed!

We had my southern Alberta family over yesterday for a housewarming party, and it was a lot of fun! For some reason I didn't get any pictures, but I've been so bad with taking pictures lately so it's not much of a surprise. Anyway, mostly everyone in the south was able to come and it was great to see how much easier it is to have them all over in the new house:).

Lynsey started preschool last week! She did great, just as I thought she would. Tomorrow is her first full two hour day, and she starts dance tomorrow as well! Yes, we are starting with a busy life now:). I know she'll enjoy these things, and I really hope it doesn't become too much to keep up with.

So Adam's singing is becoming more and more advanced! Just yesterday, we started noticing that he is now singing the entire song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" from start to finish, and we can understand almost all of the words! It's so cute, I can hardly stand it:). One day when I get the whole song clearly on video, I'll post it on here - it really is impressive!
