What a month January has been! We had our first (and hopefully only) snow event here in Redmond a few weeks ago, what an interruption to our regularly scheduled programming! Ugh I didn't like it at all, but the kids loved it. And the dog! Oh my, he was such a fan of the snow! That first day taking him out, he got the BIGGEST snowballs stuck to his legs, what a pain! Oddly it was only the first day that it was a problem, the snow texture must have changed because it wasn't nearly as bad after that. The kids were off school for 3 days and I didn't get out a lot, but after the first day it was totally doable to drive most places so I did make it out to some appointments and the gym etc. Very much hoping this is it for snow this year!
I took Lynsey and Nathan ice skating last Saturday, Lynsey lasted a lot longer than Nathan because her friend Ari was with her, but it was a nice outing. Brian and I went out that night which was nice, we don't get out nearly as often as we should! Funny enough we are going out with friends tonight so that's two weekends in a row after months of not going out - when it rains it pours!
Last Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Brian and Lynsey went snowboarding again as has been tradition for the last several years. They had a great time, and I had a relaxing day with the boys at home. We went to the gym in the morning and spent the rest of the day at home. Nathan is hesitant to try snowboarding, but I do think he will try it soon and then it will just be me and Adam at home on these days!
Adam has been pretty happy since we got back from Calgary, he is definitely on an easy cycle at the moment! The last week has been a bit of an uptick on repetitiveness, but I know how much worse it has been in the past and I'm just enjoying some relief. I'm sure he is too! We took all the kids to the MoPop (Museum of Pop Culture) in downtown Seattle today, they were having their Sensory Friendly Early Opening, so we got in early (and for free - what a great program!). The kids really enjoyed their morning there! Adam trooped from one room to the next without any complaining, engaging in a few different things here and there. The highlight of the morning for him was the playground right outside the museum after we got out! The rain had stopped (was misting lightly but manageable) and the kids had a great time on the disc swing in particular! All in all a very nice outing. Our kids are getting so much easier to take places, it was an enjoyable morning for us as well as them. We don't do these outings much anymore, which I think adds to the experience because it's a bit of a novelty also.
This seems a bit silly, but I wanted to do a bit of an update on Jasper as well! He is now 10.5 months and 25 lbs, which he has been for about 6 weeks so likely full grown at this point. He is becoming so much more independent than he was at the beginning! He actually will sometimes nap in a room in the house where no one else is - he used to always have to be with a human at all times. I think he's finally secure enough to know we aren't going to abandon him lol! We moved his crate out of Lynsey's room since he usually sleeps on her floor or her bed now, and moved it into the laundry room. There's a camera in there now so we can watch him, and I'm going to experiment with leaving the house and leaving his crate door open (laundry room door closed obviously, I'm not that adventurous!) and see how he does with a bit of freedom while we are gone. Ideally we can get to the point where he can be trusted to roam the house while we are gone, but I'm not sure when we will get there. He's a great dog most of the time, but he does get into these moods where he wants to chew stuff he shouldn't. He chewed my hairdryer cord the other day, just out of the blue. He has cords available to him all the time and he doesn't bother with them, but every now and then he still wants to chew up a cord! Silly pup.
