We have continued to have a very different but still fun summer! The weekend after we got back from camping, we set up the tent in the backyard for the kids to sleep in Friday and Saturday night. It was fun for them, but Adam woke up way too early both days, ugh. Brian and I went to a seafood restaurant in Ballard to celebrate my birthday on Saturday (we went to the restaurant on Saturday but my actual birthday was Sunday). It was a lovely meal and nice night out! The kids have been having fun in the pool on the hot days, and we had a great weekend away in Long Beach Washington this past weekend! We left on Thursday and stayed until Sunday. We spent a lot of time on the beach, having beach fires every evening was definitely a highlight.
Adam was very subdued for most of the weekend, we made some medication changes which might well be the reason. I think he still had fun but he was also quite emotional a lot of the time. He's been very tired since we got back, Monday was a tough day for him. He's been going to bed super early and getting lots of sleep, and Tuesday he started to perk up. He's been in a great mood since! I wonder if it just took his body some time to get used to the new medication?? At this point I am hopeful that it's a positive change! He hasn't been super repetitive, and he's even allowed us to start working on mask wearing. So far he only wears it for a minute at a time, but it's promising because I really thought he would refuse to put it on at all. He has to learn, since there are no exemptions to Washington's mask mandate. If we want to fly anywhere in the next year probably he will have to learn to wear one for that reason, too.
We found out yesterday that school is going to start remotely in September. At first I was disappointed, but then I learned that it looks like they ARE going to have in person learning for Learning Center students! Thank goodness! Adam can learn again, hallelujah! I'm sure it will look different but I'm hopeful he will adjust well, he has always surprised us with his ability to adjust to big changes, often better than smaller changes. The other two kids should do fine with the remote learning, it sounds like it's going to be a lot better than it was in the Spring (not that it would be hard to improve on that!). A lot more live teaching instead of just a few assignments online. I'm choosing to make the most of it instead of dwelling on what they are missing. It's too overwhelming, and it's not in my control. My biggest worry was about Adam and I am so grateful that he at least should be getting what he needs. He can afford learning gaps the least of all the kids. Nathan and Lynsey will be fine no matter what happens.
