Well, life has been returning more and more to normal in this part of the world, even as other parts of the world are still reeling from the ongoing pandemic. I know that India is in dire straits, even Alberta is in another pretty serious lockdown as cases are surging there, but here we are as close to normal as we have been in over 14 months! The CDC announced yesterday that fully vaccinated people don't have to wear masks either indoors or outdoors anymore. Interesting announcement that caught a lot of people off guard including myself, I was so sure masks would be the absolute last thing to go in this whole pandemic. I don't think this will happen immediately here at least, I was just at a few stores and saw all of one person without a mask:-/. Very interesting, and obviously very encouraging that the vaccines are working so well that they think vaccinated people should just go back to normal life! I am so curious to see how this will practically play out. One place I will definitely be taking my mask off is at the gym, HALLELUJAH! No more sweating in a mask, woohoo!
What has our family been up to the last several weeks . . . lots of baking! We are watching the Great British Bakeoff and Lynsey and Brian decided they wanted to try and make macarons. They've had several attempts now and they are getting pretty good! Nathan had a piano recital the weekend before last and he did such a great job! Both Nathan and Lynsey seem to have a performance gene where they just nail it when they need to! Adam has been a bit up and down at his horse riding lessons, overall I think he is getting better but last weekend was a bit rough. He is still in this phase where he is so dependent on Brian and we didn't communicate very well on Saturday about what time Brian would be home from going out for lunch with his friends . . . it didn't go over very well. He can sort of handle Brian going places when we prepare him, but there was a bit of a revolving door at our house Saturday morning and this important step got missed. Anyway, I think he is enjoying it and I'm glad he is getting out and doing something!
Volleyball has been a lot of fun for both Lynsey and myself! I'm enjoying coaching, although some days I definitely wonder if I'm good at it. It's hard with girls this age, there is a range of interest and abilities. I have come to the conclusion that my ideal situation would be an assistant with a high level junior high team or a medium level high school team. Highly engaged players with a good skill level that are very receptive to suggestions and enthusiastic to learn. It's been fun overall, though:-). Lynsey is enjoying herself, although I'm not sure she's really getting to know her teammates all that well. They are supposed to start playing games next week, so we will see how that does for team bonding!
Lynsey is set to get her vaccine on Monday, which she is ONLY excited about because it means she will get to hang out with her friends more. Whatever it takes to get her there NOT kicking and screaming, she is not a fan of needles at all:-/. I'm thrilled she can get it, she will be almost fully immune by the time we head to Alberta, which is fantastic. 3 down, 2 to go in this house!
Nathan is still playing Lacrosse and making some improvements! It's such a difficult sport to learn, and he's getting there. Some days he enjoys it, other days not so much, but he's having a good attitude and sticking with it. He's making some friends on the team and we have start carpooling with his buddy Garrett which has been great for a lot of reasons. I really want him to learn how satisfying it is to stick with something and get good at it by working hard!
Brian and I have been talking about building an addition above our garage. The price of lumber has skyrocketed of late, so we will probably not rush into this, but we are talking to some contractors and considering next Spring as a potential start time. Hopefully the price of lumber will settle down by then but we really don't know if it will. The first step is to get an architect to give us some drawings and go through the permit process, so we are thinking about possibly doing that part this summer already (at least get the drawings) so we have a bit of a head start next Spring. I don't know, it's a big project that's going to be very expensive, but it also looks very likely that we would get our money back on resale. We will see where this goes!
