Halloween fun, Lynsey is FOURTEEN, ready for vacation!

It's been a few weeks! We had a really fun Halloween, our tradition of carving pumpkins the day before continued. Nathan was especially into Halloween this year, his dinosaur costume was so much fun and got so many comments! We went out as a family into our neighborhood late afternoon, that was a lot of fun. Our neighborhood has done a modified trick or treating the last few years where people put their treats on a table at the end of the driveway, it worked quite well. Adam lasted a few streets and then he was done. Nathan was excited to go to his friend Adam's house where he was going to get to go trick or treating with his buddies Adam and Felix, and that was a lot of fun for him. I'm glad he had a chance to go with his friends. Lynsey also went out with her friend Maggie on her own in the evening, which was fun for her. ALMOST a normal Halloween! Woohoo!

Of course, after Halloween, comes Lynsey's birthday! On the day of her birthday, we were going to share some cupcakes with her volleyball team, BUT the volleyball practice was cancelled because the coach was fired:-/. I was hoping Coach Jim would be my path to becoming an assistant coach, and now he was gone. I was pretty disappointed, but I am trying to figure out what my next step is, even with Coach being gone. A new person will be the coach, and I've even been thinking about applying to BE the head coach! No idea if I'm ready for that, but I'm thinking about applying and seeing what happens. They don't have to hire me if I'm not qualified, right? I'm still thinking this over - just when you think you have a plan, right?!

Back to Lynsey! So she didn't get to share her cupcakes with her team that day, but we did have an ice cream cake with our family and then she had a hotel party with three of her closest friends on Friday. We went to a hotel close to the mall in Lynnwood, had dinner at the food court, and then the girls went shopping. We came back to the hotel after the mall closed with Cinnabons and the girls watched a few movies before going to bed. We ended up doing some more shopping in the morning as well, it was a fun time for the girls:-). Lynsey is 14!

Last week was busy; I went for a hike with Kristy and Elisse on Monday, and there was a volleyball practice afterschool with one of the assistant coaches that I helped out with. It was a bit awkward, and I wasn't sure at the end of it if I still wanted to pursue this coaching angle. Just one of those days, I guess. Tuesday and Wednesday it was just me and one other parent volunteer, and those practices I think went a lot better. I was starting to get to know the girls a bit better, and starting to feel a lot less awkward. The thoughts of pursuing coaching, either applying for the head job or just trying to get on as an assistant, were back. Wednesday after practice, Lynsey had a bunch of the C2 girls over for an end of year party. It was a wild evening! They had snacks and pizza, and played some laser tag and watched a movie - I think they all had a lot of fun!

I am still not sure where I am going to go with this coaching thing, but I am hoping in the next few weeks I will figure out my next steps. I know I'm going to take some coaching courses online at the bare minimum, and we will see if I feel equipped after that to apply for the head job! We are going to Mexico on Thursday, so I will have some down time to really consider what is next. I have also been considering applying to the school district to be a substitute. They are in dire need, and the flexibility of it sounds like it could be perfect for me. Ordinarily I wouldn't be qualified to be a teaching sub, but they are pretty desperate right now so waiving a lot of the requirements. Now might be a time to get my foot in the door! I think I will wait until after we get back from our vacation to figure out if this is a good next step for me or not.

So much going on! I am so excited to go on vacation and hopefully clear my head on what I should do. It's so exciting to consider new things, change has always been a bit exhilarating for me. I know it will put a strain to what I do at home, but I think our family is ready for me to slowly break out of my purely at-home role.

Wish us luck on our vacation! We are going to Mexico City first for a few days, which I am a bit nervous about, but I'm hoping it will work a lot better than I'm envisioning. We haven't really done a city with the kids before so it will be interesting! On Sunday, we fly to Cancun for 6 nights to stay at the Grand at Moon Palace - can't wait to kick back by the pool! Even have some spa time, thanks to resort credits haha. Here's hoping Adam enjoys every aspect of the trip and does well on the plane! I'll let you know:-).
