Merry Christmas all! It is the night before Christmas and I am doing a blog post, this is how important it is to me to be organized before leaving on a trip lol. We are leaving for Calgary in the morning (assuming our flight doesn't get cancelled, such are the times we are living in - still. Or again.) With the Covid variant Omicron surging almost everywhere, I feel like this whole trip might be a bit of a mistake:-/. We did our tests on Wednesday and we were negative, but I have to admit I'm a bit worried about testing positive before going home - getting stuck there for 10 days would be much more impactful than if we couldn't go at all. Oh well, I guess we are going for it and hoping for the best! Here's hoping all our vaccinations and boosters count for something and we can stay healthy over the next week!
We've had a fun few weeks leading up to Christmas! On Saturday the 11th, we had a Christmas party at the Davey's house with our friends and it was a lot of fun! We did a gift exchange and played some games, ate too much of course. Last weekend, Brian and I took Lynsey and Nathan to their first NHL game - Oilers vs Kraken! I think I was more excited than the kids, but we all had a great time:-). The Oilers won this time, woohoo! It was dicey looking in the first period, we were very short handed because Omicron was ripping through the Oilers locker room and players were dropping like flies. No Nuge or Pulijaarvi unfortunately, but McDavid and Draisaitl were playing so that was what really mattered to Nathan:-). We got down 2-0 early but somehow managed to get it together and tie it before the first period was over (phew! I thought it was going to be a long night with a disappointed boy!). In the end they won 4-3. Adam did really well with Lynsey's friend Maggie babysitting. This was the first time we did something like this, a family outing without Adam. I thought I would feel more guilty about it, but it ended up being completely fine and I think we would do it again. Definitely not something we would do regularly or anything, it's important to us to do things that can include Adam, but the odd hockey game that Adam just wouldn't be able to tolerate is okay.
Yesterday was our Christmas Eve, so we made a rib roast for dinner and did Christmas pajamas and stockings. As always a fun evening with lots of anticipation for Christmas morning! Nathan didn't sleep well at all, meaning I didn't sleep well because he kept coming to our room, but I can't fault him for it. I remember as a kid I could never sleep on Christmas Eve! Too excited! This morning, we made some waffles and the kids opened their presents. We had bought Adam some new glass rocks for his rock bin, but we totally dropped the ball while we were making waffles and he got into the garage. All of a sudden I hear this sound of rocks sprinkling in the garage and we ran in there, he had found his Christmas present:-/. I was a bit disappointed we didn't get to see his reaction when he first saw them, but he does seem to really like them and that is the most important thing!
The kids had a great time opening their presents, I think everyone got some things that they liked! Lynsey and I did some nails in the afternoon with her new gel nail kit, Nathan was busy assembling some new projects, Adam was busy sprinkling away:-). It was a great Christmas, and it's not over yet! I have been busy packing all day, the amount of stuff that we have to take with us on a trip to Alberta at Christmas is insane - all the winter stuff, the gifts . . . it's a good thing our car rental is a minivan because I'm not sure we would fit into anything else! I hope the airport experience isn't too crazy, getting the shuttle from the airport parking lot will probably be the worst part - on the way there and back. We are checking all the bags so we just have to make it to the desk. Wish us luck!
Merry Christmas and we will see you in 2022!
