Great weekend in sunny Phoenix!

The last few weeks have been consumed with lots of basketball, volleyball, and my trip to Phoenix this past weekend! Nathan's basketball will be over this weekend with his last game on Saturday, he's improved a lot and I think he will likely try and play in middle school as well. Brian also took Lynsey and Nathan snowboarding again on Sunday the 29th which went pretty well, and Adam and I enjoyed another quiet Sunday at home. I didn't mind one bit after two very volleyball-packed weekends of driving to Tacoma, I was happy to hang out at home for the day!

I've been training to run a 10K in the Mesa Marathon with my friend Pam (well not "with" her because she ran the half marathon!) and this past weekend we finally did it! It was a lovely weekend! I cut it a bit close getting to the airport (I didn't anticipate it taking an hour and 10 minutes to get to the airport at 2:30pm, thanks Seattle traffic for getting back to your normal terrible self! The only thing I miss about the pandemic lol!). I did make it and Pam and I got to her mom's house about the same time. We went shopping for some groceries and stayed up late chatting and catching up. The next day we made our way over to where the marathon was going to be (or the finish line anyway) and picked up our packets and got a lay of the land. We both felt a bit better about everything being there the day before, figuring out where to park and how it was all going to work with the busses. After that we went for a walk in a park close to where we were staying and went out for dinner. We turned in really early because we had to get up in the middle of the night for this crazy run:-/. We left at 3:15am (!!) and got to the parking lot right around 4am. We found Pam's bus and then I made my way to my 10k bus, I got dropped off at the start line right around 5am so lots of time to sit there and be cold lol! It was actually okay, I met some guys and we were chatting before the race, ended up passing the time really nicely. My race was pretty good - I was really happy with my time! 58:45 - can't complain about that! It was a really nice course with zero uphills and a few sloping downhill sections.

After the run we went back to Pam's mom's place and spent some time relaxing in the pool. Ahhh Arizona sunshine! We rested for a while and got some Thai for dinner, and then watched a movie to cap off the weekend. It was such a great weekend and I'm really glad I did it! Looking forward to 2024 when we all turn 45 and hopefully the rest of the group will be able to join us!

I got up really early Sunday to get to the airport for my 7:15am flight. It was a bit stressful getting a Lyft because it said there were some, but then when I requested one, no one was picking up the ride! I was about to go wake Pam up and have her bring me because I didn't know what else to do, when someone finally picked it up. He got a big tip! I was there with a good amount of time to spare and the flight was smooth. I got to my car around 9:40am and made my way to the volleyball tournament in Bellevue (yes, we got to play in Bellevue this weekend instead of Tacoma! Yay!). The girls struggled a bit, although they did win their first three matches. They lost the last one of the day to the Baden 16 Teal team (the Seattle side team). We had beat them the last time we played them, but we are pretty evenly matched and just couldn't pull it out in the third set. There were some interesting moments, as Sabry (the head coach of our team) got really upset and yelled at our team after losing a set in a match we did eventually win. I wasn't quite sure what to do, it's not what I would have done but the girls did play much better in the second set and won (in my opinion in SPITE of the outburst and not because of it!). It's hard as the assistant because I don't really know what my place is, and when I should intervene. I still have so much to learn! But I am enjoying it, even with the challenges!

This week has been really busy, I took a sub job on Tuesday which went okay but it caused this whole thing because Lynsey had driving school in the afternoon which meant Adam was going to be home alone for a bit before Nathan got home. Thankfully Horace Mann staff was really good about dismissing Nathan a bit early so he could be home with Adam, they are okay alone at home together for short periods of time. What a balancing act! It's looking like subbing on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be out for me until Lynsey is done her driving school in about a month!
