Fehr Family Visit, and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

On my last post, I left off right before it was time to go take Homecoming pictures for Lynsey and her friends so that's where we start today:-). Thankfully the weather was nice and we headed down to Marymoore Park and took some pictures by the windmill. It was definitely a lower key event than it has been in years past, but I was happy that Lynsey was able to get some enjoyment out of the Homecoming hoopla this year at least.

One big thing that was decided last week was that we are getting Adam braces! Yep, we decided he was finally ready to try getting braces. Invisilign actually, as we were pretty sure regular braces would still be a bit much for him to tolerate. The Orthodontist thought that just the Invisilign with no jaw movement would be sufficient for him (he does have an overbite that if we were aiming for perfection we would also be working on, but we are really just trying to improve things to the point where his teeth aren't sticking out). I'm a bit anxious about this but he really does need something so we are hoping he will handle this change like a champ. Pray for us lol! He is almost as tall as Brian now as well, I measured him at just under 6'3" last week. Crazy!

Last week Thursday, the long awaited Fehr family visit began! I spent a lot of time in the days leading up to it cleaning and making plans, got my ferry reservation so we could visit Orcas Island on Saturday. Thursday night I headed to the airport to pick up Mom and Martha who made it there after a good drive to Edmonton and a smooth flight. Friday morning, we went for a little walk around Hartman Park before heading down to the airport to pick up Liz and Gert who arrived right around 1pm. We drove into downtown Seattle and went to Pike Place Market (had some trouble parking because the parkade I wanted was full of course, but I figured something else out). We wandered around there, tried to find the new Outlook park they just unveiled, but it was harder to find from the Market than anticipated. I did eventually find it. We went down to the waterfront and had a little afternoon snack and coffee by the water, and then decided to do the Great Wheel which was really fun! Got some souvenirs and some beautiful flowers on the way back through the Market. My original plan had been to also do the Space Needle area but the consensus was that it wasn't really necessary, so I decided to just drive past the Space Needle on the way home. We stopped briefly so they could take a few photos and then headed home. We ate supper at our place with the family and hung out at our place in the evening. A really fun day!

Saturday was the big trip to Orcas Island! We left here around 8am and had a smooth drive to Anacortes. Got there in plenty of time to catch the 10:35 ferry. The ferry ride was beautiful as always, we got so lucky with the weather this weekend! So sunny and warm! When we got on the island we stopped in Eastsound, the little town on Orcas, and had a delicious lunch at an Irish pub right on the water with really nice views. We wandered around the town for a bit, did a bit of shopping (and window shopping) before getting back in the car and driving up to the Mount Constitution lookout point. The drive was winding as always but pretty smooth. The views were just spectacular! One of my favorite lookouts from the various places I have been, it is pretty surreal. We hung out for a while and just enjoyed the scenery before heading back to the car. At this point it was actually time to just head back to the ferry line so we did that, had a coffee at the little coffee shop right by the ferry waiting area. Ferry ride back was also smooth, and we decided to stop at a Thai place in Mount Vernon on the way back for supper. Nothing fancy but the food was good - AND I found a parking spot RIGHT in front of the restaurant! We all agreed it was meant to be after some of the struggles I had finding parking this weekend haha. We got home around 8:30 after a great day! Gert, Martha and I made a quick trip to Fred Meyer to get some groceries for the Turkey dinner the next day, and everyone turned in pretty early - happy exhaustion:-).

Sunday was a leisurely day at home. In the morning, we all took a short walk around Hartman Park (Liz and Gert had missed the Friday morning walk so we did the same one) and had a light lunch at home. Everyone pitched in with getting the turkey ready to go in the oven, many hands make light work! After the turkey was ready there was a bit of a lull, so we decided it was a good time to go to Target and do some shopping. Everyone seemed to really enjoy that outing, and no one left empty handed (there was much rationalization about how everything was going to fit into their carryon bags, in the end they did all make it work lol!). We went home after and thus began all the final preparations for the delicious turkey dinner! It turned out great, everything was so good! We wasted part of the evening watching the Oilers lose (to the Flames of all teams, ugh!) but such is the life of an Oilers fan, sigh.

Early Monday morning, I took Mom and Martha to the airport for their flight home. Got back home and started getting all the bedding washed and put back in Lynsey's room (Martha slept in Lynsey's room and Liz and Gert slept in the boys' room - the kids slept in the garage room for the weekend). When Liz and Gert were ready, we drove to the Sammamish River trail for a walk, thankfully all the forecasted rain for this week held off until the afternoon (we really were so fortunate!). We got back home and it was time to take Liz and Gert to the airport. It was such a nice weekend of visiting and I was so happy to have my family come and visit. Hopefully it's not the last time!

I spent the rest of Monday doing laundry, making turkey soup (yum!) and getting the rooms put back together. Andy came yesterday to stay with us for a week while he's working out here so I had to get that spare room turned around quickly. We can go months and months with no visitors at all, but as you know when it rains it pours! We are happy to have him here and look forward to spending some time with him this week - it's just too bad his wife Kristy couldn't join him:-(. Maybe next time!
