Brian's Aus Trip - better late than never!

In my defense, life has been very busy since Brian got back with WATCHING THE OILER'S ACTUALLY MAKE THE STANLEY CUP FINALS!! I'll talk more about that in my next post:-D. I did go through all of Brian's pictures and make a photo book so that has also consumed a lot of time. I decided to also do a blog post of the trip for people that will never see the photo book. I will try and go from memory from what he told me while doing the book so it may be a bit vague, but there will be a bit of context at least!

He got to Gold Coast Friday morning and immediately had to deal with a work emergency, which was a bit unfortunate. Thankfully the work stuff calmed down a bit after a few days so he didn't have that hanging over his head the whole trip! Andy and Kristy showed him around Surfer's Paradise the first day.

Saturday, they started the day with a Mother's Day brunch with Andy's family and then Brian and Andy went to a casino to watch game 2 of the Oilers/Canucks series. Victory for the Oilers, woohoo! Then they went to I think it was called Koala Park to see some kangaroos.

Sunday morning, Brian and Andy got on a plane and took a two night trip to Sydney. The first day they wandered around Sydney Harbor, saw the Opera House (of course), saw Bondi Beach and a few others (forgive me, if you want specifics you will have to come over and look at the photo book I made which I poured a lot more energy into haha!).

On Monday, the guys did the Harbor Bridge Climb which looks pretty fun! Saw great views of the city. After that walked around Sydney some more, had a nice dinner across from I believe it was Manly Beach.

Tuesday they had some time before their flight so they explored Hyde Park, Victoria Shopping Center, a monument of some kind. Then it was time to head back to Gold Coast!

No pictures Wednesday, apparently it was mostly working and a bit of shopping. On Thursday, Andy took Brian to a National Park that had some lovely scenery. A lookout point that is really nice, but the weather wasn't great so they didn't get much of a view unfortunately.

No pictures Friday, Saturday Andy's brother Rob took him and Andy on a drive up the Gold Coast. Looks like Gold Coast has a lot of beautiful beaches that I would love to explore myself one day! Looks like a beautiful drive, capped off with dinner at a pub.

Sunday - last day! He started the day with a meat pie (very Aussie) and he apparently had to go see these bats you see pictured below. And a huge spider. True Australian experience! Then they went to an observation deck where you get stunning views of Surfer's Paradise and the beach. Brian wanted to actually go in the ocean at some point on his trip, so him and Andy took a dip on the last day. He reports that the current was very strong!

They went back to Koala Park and actually saw a koala in the wild! Apparently this is a somewhat rare experience so they were a bit lucky.

Monday morning he was off to the airport to begin the journey home, and arrived home . . . on Monday morning:-D. Amazing trip with amazing friends! Can't wait until it's my turn!
