Sunday was the day that Nathan had been waiting for since the beginning of the vacation - Legoland! Once again the weather was great and we were ready to spend the day doing rides and checking out the cool Lego stuff. The day started with a bit of a miracle. Adam had been saying he would go on rides at Legoland, but that morning when we asked him, he clearly said that no, he would not be doing rides. There was a small roller coaster close to the front of the park that Nathan and Lynsey wanted to go on, so Brian took them to wait in line (it was at 45 minutes right at park opening already!). I took Adam to a customer service kiosk to get a disability access pass like we had at Disneyland, not knowing at all whether he would actually get on any rides. We decided it was worth a try! I get the other kids out of the line so we can all ride the roller coaster together (in theory). Adam is waiting in the small line that is still there, even when you have the access pass, and we are seeing no signs that he will ride this thing. We told him he didn't have to ride it, but to get to the exit, you have to walk through the roller coaster car to get to the other platform. He was grabbing onto things, not wanting to walk through the car even, but finally Brian got him to let go and he stepped into the car. And then he just sat down, as though his intention had been to just ride the roller coaster this whole time. We were in shock!! The rest of us quickly got in and got ourselves buckled, and at this point, he is looking like he is perfectly content in there and not at all stressed! He LOVED the ride!! It set the tone for the rest of the day, he ended up riding that roller coaster a total of 4 times and a different one with a pretty big drop (Nathan hated it!) twice. He didn't do any other rides, but still what a breakthrough for him!
The other kids had a great time as well. I did some rides with the them as well, Nathan's favorite was the Ninjago ride which was a bit similar to the Midway Mania one that he loved at Disneyland. We walked through Miniland which was really cool, a bunch of cities built with Lego - so well done! All in all, we had a great time at Legoland and I'm glad we did it while the kids were still young enough to fully enjoy it. We got back pretty close to dinner time, but Brian still took the kids to the beach for a bit. Brian and I went to dinner by ourselves afterwards which was nice, we just went to a pub close by. We walked back on the board walk and some fancy beach house had these big spotlights on the waves, pretty cool. A great last full day in San Diego!
The trip home was very uneventful, the flight was actually a bit early and we got home by 3:15. The kids did great on the plane. It's getting so much easier to travel now that they are getting older!
