Hanging out at home, Stettler, and Edmonton

We didn't leave our house last weekend:). We had our small group over on Friday night, our friends Shaun and Sharon over for dinner on Saturday, and our friends Bobbi and Jer over for lunch on Sunday. It was a fun weekend! They both have babies around 6 months give or take, and Lynsey is usually quite motherly towards them:). Gavin looks a bit annoyed in the one picture, but she really does like him a lot and wants to carry him around like she does her dolls!

Lynsey and I went to Stettler on Tuesday to visit with Mary and her boys. It was a great day! I was so worried about doing the drive alone in the morning, because Lynsey never naps in the morning now, but she did actually sleep for about 40 minutes! Then she just chilled out for a while, got a bit restless for a while, but a cup of snacks kept her happy all the way to Stettler so I was so RELIEVED! We were outside ALL DAY! Lynsey loved it! What a fun backyard they have compared to ours:). To cap off the day, we went to the pool, where Lynsey wore me out completely. I take her to the pool here quite often, but the one we usually go to has a toddler pool where I can just let her loose. In Stettler, it's just a graduated entry pool and I had to hover over her the whole time. She just ran in the water and fell face first a hundred times - all part of the fun for her! She was very high maintenance, but had a blast, so good for her! All in all, it was a great day at Mary and Dave's house!

We went to Edmonton this past weekend and had a really good time! We spent some time with Patrick and Jamie and Jordan and Krista, and even though it was absolutely freezing outside, Lynsey would not be deterred from another fun yard. She would have stayed in that car swing all night, we think. Poor girl was so cold, but she didn't care! We were going to head to Westlock on Sunday to visit Ryan and Ruthy, but then it started SNOWING and so we decided to head home while it was still light outside. Turned out to be a good decision, because there were a few sections on Highway 2 that weren't very good, and it was getting worse. Dumb "Spring" weather!

Not much new with Lynsey's development - her vocabulary continues to increase, and she's had a few more tantrum-like episodes. I think I'm learning how to deal with them, but we'll see if it ever happens in public! We are just waiting for the good weather now so we can enjoy the summer . . . come quickly!!!

Anniversary, Easter, first night away from Lynsey

So Brian and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary last Friday. I must say that so far, marriage has really been pretty easy and fun! We might come into some hard times yet, but I have loved every minute of being married thus far:). And of course, bringing Lynsey into the family has only made things more fun! Brian's aunt Stella came and stayed with Lynsey on Friday night while Brian and I went out to dinner and a movie, and then on to a hotel for night. Lynsey did really well - apparently she was a bit confused in the morning, but no meltdowns or anything! I think she's ready to be away from us for a weekend sometime soon (start planning weekend away, check:)). We spent Easter in Calgary this year instead of going to Edmonton, and went to Terry and Marilyn's for Easter dinner on Sunday. All in all, it was a nice, relaxing Easter weekend.

Lynsey has continued on her path of independence, although we haven't seen a repeat of her little tantrum (thank goodness!). She is getting more efficient at eating herself, although I still try to sneak in a spoonful here and there to move things along. It seems like nothing ever stays easy for long - you just enter a phase where all aspects of taking care of her are running smoothly, and then she decides to change the way she wants things done. The story of our lives! And most other parents out there I'm sure:). She is definitely starting to talk more, her most prominent new word being "more" (or her own version of it - mmmo! mmmo!). If only we could figure out WHAT she wanted more of, this would be a great development! Oh, well - the communication is coming along!

Little Miss Independent!

Since my last post, it seems like things have changed a lot. I think it's because Lynsey was sick last week, and as she's recovering, she seems to be asserting more independence for some reason. She had a lingering flu which made her very tired and not at all hungry, so now that she is over the bug, she wants to eat constantly and isn't so crazy about sleep anymore! It would seem that my days of feeding her are also coming to an end quite abruptly, which is sad for me. It is just way too convenient (and non-messy) to be able to simply feed her off my plate, but that is not happening at all anymore. She wants her own utensils and bowl and that is that. She also had what I would consider her first real temper tantrum this morning. She was in her high chair eating her toast, when her thumb got stuck in the cheese whiz on one of the pieces. Not a catastrophe I wouldn't have thought, but she thought otherwise. She started freaking out and refusing to eat and I did not know what to do with her. She has freaked out before, but it's always been related to going to sleep - not just in the middle of mealtime! So I've always known what to do with her - put her in her crib and let her shriek herself to sleep. However, first thing in the morning, I was caught a bit off guard. I went back to bed and tried to just hold her until she calmed down, which she did eventually, it just took a long time. I really hope this is a one off - she is normally so even-tempered! We'll see - she might still just be recovering from being so sick, who knows.

We are loving the beautiful weather these days and have been taking full advantage! We go outside two or three times a day and it is such a welcome break for Lynsey (and myself!). I can't tell you how glad I am that Spring is finally here - not a moment too soon, if you ask me.

There's not too many pictures this time - I didn't take a lot of pictures while she was sick. Brian and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary on Friday! I can't believe it's been 5 years already! So far, I have to say, marriage has been relatively easy:). I really have been blessed by an awesome little family!
