And we're back in the swing of things

The last few weeks have been pretty routine, nothing too out of the ordinary. Nathan's potty training is going okay - he is doing really well with peeing on the potty, but we have yet to experience any success at all in the number 2 department:-/. Not good at all. I have no idea how to teach him this skill, so I just keep trying to catch him in the act but haven't managed to do it yet. Frustrating, but I am proud of how he's doing with pee! Yes, he still has some accidents, but I am pretty much just taking him every 2 hours or so and he has many days with no accidents. He always pees quite a lot in the morning, which means he is holding it for the last half of the night or so, but there is still always some pee in his diaper in the morning from earlier on in the night (apparently). He doesn't tell us that he needs to go, but I'm sure that will come when the habit is more engrained. I actually take him out in underwear, which is pretty risky considering he hasn't mastered poop yet! Usually when I drop him off in childcare at the gym I slip a diaper on, the last thing I need is to be pulled out of a class to deal with poopy shorts!

Speaking of the gym, I have been going 4 times a week and I'm really enjoying it! It's hard, I am doing much different workouts than I did before, but it's a nice variety! I'm doing a body pump class once a week that is basically a weight training/core strengthening workout, and an interval cycling class that is super hard. My poor legs! I've also done a high intensity body attack class that I like as well, and some swimming and running. I love that I can do something different every day! I haven't noticed any body changes yet (in fact, I'm pretty sure I've gained a few pounds . . .hmm) but I know if I stay consistent (and probably reign in the eating a bit) the results will be there. I don't know when I've worked my entire body this hard so consistently - it's very different that just pushing myself in the cardio department.

What else is new? Nathan is becoming so grown up! I love listening to him and Lynsey interacting! Lynsey was making a series of silly videos with the iPad the other day, and you can hear Nathan giggling away in the background of the videos every time Lynsey says or does something silly:). He has started "reading" some of his memorized books, and even sings along with songs sometimes. Adam has been plodding along, nothing really new to report with him. Apparently he is starting to have more social interactions with some kids at school, which I wish I could see! He has been doing pretty well with turn taking and sharing at home, and I know they work really hard on that with him at school. Lynsey is doing well at school, it's nice to see that she isn't having as hard a time adjusting this year as she did last year.

Here we go again!

Potty training take 2!

Nathan has been showing more and more signs that he might be ready for potty training lately, and on Sunday when he woke up from his nap dry, I impulsively decided to give it another try. He has been doing so well! He likes it when we put Cheerios in the potty, but not because he is standing up and trying to hit them with his pee. Nope, he sits down and pees on them! I'm not really sure if this is confusing him about what is acceptable to do with your food, but I am just doing what works! He hasn't actually asked for Cheerios since this morning and he's peed in the potty several times, so maybe the novelty is wearing off a bit. He has started resisting a little bit more today (this was about the day on my last attempt where he started resisting) but this time I am powering through. He's way more ready this time, has been dry after his nap for 4 days in a row . . . it's time! Now to try and catch him when he needs to poop . . . this is always the most fun part of potty training! Fingers crossed that part doesn't take too long!

School has been going for a week and a half and it's been really good to get back into routine! Lynsey likes her teacher a lot, apparently he's pretty funny so she likes that:). This will be his 28th year of teaching - at the same school! I think that's pretty cool, you don't hear of teachers spending their entire careers at one school. He's pretty invested in the community! Adam is getting back into the swing of things as well. It's been a bit tough to get onto the earlier schedule that means we don't have to wake them up in the morning and then subsequently rush to get out the door, but we're getting there.

I joined a gym last week! I'm so excited! It's been great so far, I'm trying a variety of classes and equipment and going swimming etc. I was starting to really fizzle with the running and the elliptical, so the change up has been really good. The child care is really good and there's just a monthly fee of $20 to put Nathan in as often as I want which is really great! I am going to try for 4 times a week, we'll see how it goes:). Trying a spin class tomorrow for the first time! Looking forward to it!

I feel like there was more to update, but I can't think of anything else right now. We're just getting back into the swing of life in September! Lynsey started gymnastics on Monday and I know she will do great! I'm glad she picked gymnastics over dance, I think it will help her development more all-around skills that will help her in many sports.
